AZ ANG 162ndFW
Welcome to the 162nd Fighter Wing AZ/ANG Wiki page.
[edit] 162nd Fighter Wing
The 162nd Fighter Wing, Arizona Air National Guard, is based at Tucson International Airport, Tucson, AZ. Across town, there is a Detachment assigned at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (DMAFB). There are three F-16 Squadrons under this wing.
[edit] Mission
The wing has four different missions.
- F-16 Training
- To Foreign Nationals that fly the F-16 Fighter
- Operation Snowbird
- This mission is based at DMAFB. The detachment based there provides basic support for other units, U.S. - USAF, USMC, USN, USA, and Foreign Allied militaries, which fly two-week training sorties out of DMAFB due to the optimal weather and the ranges available to them in Arizona.
- NORAD/Homeland Defense/Operation Noble Eagle
- This mission also operates from DMAFB. The Alert Detachment provides 24-hour coverage for NORAD/Homeland Defense type missions, i.e. reaction to illegal aircraft crossing the border from Mexico to the United States, aerial defense over high value areas/events - like the visit of the President of the United States to Arizona or the Super Bowl in Phoenix.
- The unit was evaluated on 14 April 2009 and received the "highest possible marks", per the 162nd FW website.
- Predator
- This is the newest mission, providing controllers, also stationed at DMAFB, for the Predator Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions, as well as Close Air Support missions.
[edit] Squadrons
These squadrons fly the F-16/Fighting Falcon, following models: C, D, E & F
- 148th Fighter Squadron
- 152nd Fighter Squadron
- 195th Fighter Squadron
[edit] Callsigns

- Bluto - Live Combat Air Patrol, can be real reaction or practice alert for NORAD
