Fire/EMS

Most fire units in Erie County are numbered under a cooperative 3-digit system where the 1st digit represents the department, the 2nd digit represents the type of apparatus, and the 3rd digit represents the home station of the unit. Obviously this breaks down when you have more than one kind of apparatus housed at a particular station. But things work out quite well for the most part.

Some of the communities to the extreme east of the county, namely Vermilion (City) FD & Florence Twp FD, seem more aligned with Lorain County for some reason, and do not participate in the Erie County system. Cedar Point FD, just like CP Security/PD, uses a unique internal radio numbering system that does not coincide with the Erie County system, as it is quite uncommon for CP units to communicate off their internal frequency. Also, not much info is available at this time to determine if Kelleys Island FD works into the Erie County system.

It is possible that Wakeman FD in extreme northeast Huron County may work into the Erie County system, but this has not been confirmed.

The Utilities group (second digit "4") above contains several different kinds of apparatus, some Chief's units ("c"), Rescues ("r"), Grass/Brush rigs ("g"), and other utility vehicles.

Cedar Point FD Units all have an initial digit of 8, and do not follow a strict pattern of assignment as of the 2022 season. For example, the Supervisor is 854, the Main First Aid station is 800, and the Fire Department's medic unit is 856. CPFD also has two utility trucks, 813 stationed at Castaway Bay resort and 814, which responds from the Fire Station on Point. Not much else is known about Cedar Point FD/EMS vehicles as they're generally only seen out or heard on the air when responding. When not responding they are parked in their station canopy by Steel Vengeance.

North Central EMS stations

  • Station 3 - Milan
  • Station 4 - Sandusky
  • Station 5 - Berlin Hts
  • Station 7 - Vermillion (Medic 5, 32, 37)

Law Enforcement

  • 300 - Castalia PD
  • 400 - Vermilion PD
  • 500 - Bay View PD
  • 800 - Berlin Heights PD
  • 900 - Kelleys Island PD
  • 1700 - Ohio Veteran's Home PD
  • 2200 - Erie County SO
  • 2400 - Perkins Township PD
  • 5900 - Milan PD

Huron & Sandusky PD's use strange callsign systems based on year-of-hire rather than numbering by department/division.

Cedar Point PD uses 3-digit numbers with the first digit based on shift assignment. Units are assigned systemically to specific zones within the park, numbered 1-4, but this assignment does not appear to be reflected in the unit number.

Cedar Point Police Unit Numbers

  • 1xx - Supervisors
  • 2xx - Uniformed Police Officers
  • 3xx - Not Used/Unknown
  • 4xx - First Shift Unit (Security)
  • 5xx - Second Shift Unit (Security)
  • 6xx - Third Shift Unit (Night Watch)
  • 7xx - Gate/Metal Screening Officers
  • 8xx - Reserved for Fire/EMS
  • 9xx - Communications/Dispatchers

After the disbanding of Cedar Point's Police Department in 2023, it is not yet known if the unit numbering system has changed, however when monitoring their channel nothing seems to be different aside from the absence of the "2xx" units.
