[edit] Numbering conventions
These conventions are becoming less widely used. They are currently used by Madison Twp., Heath, National Trails, Hebron (except for medics), Hartford, Utica, and Mary Ann Twp. Heath's and Hebron's apparatus are simply referred to by their name and unit number without a station number. (Example: "Heath Rescue 6")

[edit] Dispatch format

- <tone> - KQH904 to <callsign> <department name> <squad/fire>, <address> on <nature>, 904 clear at <time>.
- Example: KQH904 to KTA875 Madison Fire, 13333 Staddens Bridge Road on a House Fire, 904 clear at 1915.
- <alert, high-low for medic runs, solid for fire> - <apparatus>, <address> on <nature>.
- Example: <solid alert> - Rescue 1, 2nd and Fleek on wires arcing.
- <tone> - KQH904 to WPMJ506 West Licking <apparatus>, <address> on <nature>, 904 clear at <time>
- Example: - KQH904 to WPMJ506 West Licking Rescue 401, Engine 401, Medic 401, Medic 403; Broad and Mink on an auto accident, unknown injuries, 904 clear at 1432.
All departments are currently dispatched by the Licking County 911 center (the county's primary PSAP) in Newark for runs in Licking County. The Heath Police Department (the county's secondary PSAP) dispatched the Heath Fire Department until the installation of new radio equipment in 2008.
Fire/EMS departments in Licking County have moved almost entirely to plain language, although some remnants of BSSA codes remain. Also, the Newark Fire Department occasionally still uses "10-22," their former code for the police department, and "10-33," which indicates an emergency response (with lights and sirens), primarily when transporting to the hospital.

Heath public works (Street Department, Water Department, and Wastewater Department) were formerly on the (now defunct) Heath trunking system. They retain 858.2125 for communications with police and fire authorities, although this channel is rarely used except for snow removal. It is unknown what channel Heath public works now use.
