I bought this little toy after an incident near my courthouse, and decided it would be nice to have a mini radio I could keep in my pocket. This radio is quite a package. It literally fits in my uniform shirt pocket, and has good audio for its size. AM BCB reception is marginal at best...WCBS 880 came in very low in White Plains using the bar antenna. Programming the radio is a little bit of a pain, since now you have to use the tuning knob instead of direct frequency entry. Once you get used to it, however, it's not that bad. The BAND button gets you through the different frequency ranges...AM BCB, SW BCB, VHF-lo, VHF Air, UHF Air, UHF, UHF-T, 800 MHz, and then 1.2 GHz. The rig features 6 character alpha tags; you can display either the channel name OR the bank name, not both. You can also set it to display the channel bank/number. Audio power is not bad for such a small radio, but I recommend an earpiece of noisy environments. One thing that stands out, and is a pet peeve...many radios I've owned have a load of birdies in the UHF aero band. This radio had FIVE. CTCSS/DCS decode good, no delay. 1000 regular memories, 24 scan edge memories. For 199 bucks, not a bad rig at all.
