Hello all, I have been a scanner listener since I was in my teens, I am now in my 50's and little has changed in that apect. In 2001 I was diagnosed with a very deadly for of cancer which resulted in a tumor the size of my fist attached to my brain. I was not expected to live but somehow I survived some very powerfull chemo medicines, along with 8 plus weeks of radiation that was done on a daily basis. After a month I underwent the knife and the tumor was removed. As you can imagine I was in a great deal of pain before and after the surgery and was on every type of pain med you can imagine. It was difficult to get off of the meds so I packed a bag which included a few changes of clothes a bible, a fishing pole and my trusty Uniden Sportcat, yep the yellow one. After a few months I dried up and was off of all the pain killers other than a few that I needed just to function. In 2005 the cancer came back and I had a radical neck disection and more chemo and radiation to go with it. Again I had my trusty Uniden Sportcat to listen to while recovering. It was shortly after the surgery that I noticed that I was having a very difficult time remembering anything. I was informed at this time that during the first surgery that the neurosurgeon had performed a partial labotomy on my left frontal lobe and that speech, memory issues could get better or worse over time. In october of 2012 the cancer came back and once again. This time it was on my left eye and optic nerve and connected to the coradid artery. I was told by my doctors that nothing else could be done and the gave me a year to live. I did not give up and sought a new doctor and treatment which turned out to be protron beam radiation. At that time my wife bought me a new Radioshack Pro162 scanner just to try and cheer me up and take my mind off of the black cloud that seems to chase me. Well it is now 2014 and I am still kicking and have decided to treat my self to a new scanner, I want to get an APCO 25 SCANNER looking at various Uniden BCD series but I will be looking for some help with my decision and hope some members here can guide me in the right direction.
