My GRE PSR-700 Scanner Notes:

I received my new GRE PSR-700scanner yesterday and found programming it to be fairly easy.

However, I was surprised when I found out that the programming steps were not done as I had anticipated.

It's true that firmware updates can be done using the software and the supplied USB cable.

Here's the surprise: All other programming requires that the SD card be inserted into the computer.

Of course Radioreference has the most comprehensive information about the PSR-700

And then there is the RR Forum for GRE Radios.

Overall, I am very impressed with the capability and flexibility of the EZ software and now have a custom configuration with over 120 freqs.

Update. After running the PSR-700 for about a month, I can honestly say it is an outstanding piece of equipment. The database software is very flexible and easy to customize. Making changes through the menu on the scanner is also very simple and easy to accomplish.

At this point if you have a computer and want to scan standard frequencies from the awesome database available via Radio Reference or build you own custom lists as I have, I'd highly recommend the PSR-700. Remember, this scanner does not include digital scanning capabilities but that option is generally about an additional $200 in most scanners and does not personally appeal to me.

Amateur Radio Stuff

After being involved with Amateur Radio for a long period of time, I felt that it was time to spend a few of my own bucks to support a Web site where I can give something back to the Ham Radio community.

One way was to create a 100% free (no strings) Website for Amateur Radio operators and Scanner Buffs. At eHamStore.com you can compare prices, use our links page to visit Ham Radio sites from around the world and post your club's Hamfest or special radio related event.

As its third year of operation comes to a close, I would like to personally thank more then 30,000 visitors from over 128 countries that have generated nearly a quarter million page views.

So be sure to stop by and visit eHamStore.com. I encourage you to browse around and take advantage of the all the free stuff it offers.
