Law enforcement
Unit Numbering (Police) 1-99 - County Sheriff 1XX - Bradford 2XX - Piqua 3XX - Tipp City 4XX - Troy 6XX - Covington 7XX - Fletcher 8XX - Laura (not in service) 9XX - not in use 10XX - Pleasant Hill (contracts with MCSO) 11XX - Potsdam 12XX - West Milton
Some departments also use the following format of beats:
- Piqua: 2N1 - The 2 represents Piqua, The N or S represent north or south, R reprents cover, and C represents the supervisor. The last digit is day or night shift specific. Number 1-4 are 6A-6P units. 5-9 are 6P-6A Units. Units not using this configuration are school, parking, or patrol investigators, who just use their unit number.
- Sheriff: 50N - Number is the unit number and the letter has the same designation as with Piqua. There is no shift designation.
- Tipp City: 3S21 The 3 represents Tipp City and letter designates the area being patrolled and the last part is the unit number.
- Troy 4S35 - 4 represents Troy. Troy only uses S or C. The S represents the sergeant and all other units are C which for them means cover. They do not work beats.
NOTE: Piqua is religous about their format, but other agencies are pretty loose. All have to use the plan for computer aided dispatch, but often don't use it on the radio. Tipp for instance will just call in as 321 even though they are logged in to CAD as 3S21.
