Indroduction
Prior to the implementation of the Northern Kentucky Regional Communications System (NKYRCS) the Counties of Boone, Campbell, and Kenton and their partner agencies operated on a variety of conventional and trunked radio systems. These radio systems were independently owned and maintained by the respective county that the agency operated in. All Fire Services used VHF while all Law Enforcement used UHF frequecinies. As equipment started to reach its end of life the decision was made for all 3 counties to upgrade at the same time to the same radio system.
