Macoupin County - Information
Macoupin County is one of the largest counties, by area, in the state of Illinois. It also comprises 2 area codes and is perhaps the only county in the United States that has 3 or more LATAs (Telephone Exchange Bounderies). The Enhanced 911 system in the county took over 10 years to get online.
Ambulance Services - IDPH EMS Region 3L
- Dunn's Ambulance of Taylorville has taken over for Carlinville Area Hospital Ambulance Service and serves the Carlinville area. Also provides ALS intecepts from neighboring agencies. (See Carlinville page for more info)
- Prairieland Ambulance of Virden serves Virden, Girard & Nilwood. ALS intercepts units from Auburn and Springfield.
- Northwestern Area Ambulance provides service to the whole NW area of the county.
- Area Ambulance Service provides service to the west central area of the county. (Shipman, Medora, Piasa)
- The Brighton area only served by Alton Memorial Hospital Ambulance.
- Gillespie Benld Ambulance services serves its surrounding area. (Gillespie, Benld, Sawyerville, Wilsonville, Royal Lakes)
- Mt. Olive and Staunton have their own ambulance service. (Staunton also serves portions of Bond and Madison County-New Douglas/Williamson)
- 7/07 UPDATE - Bunker Hill Ambulance recently stopped operating. Currently served by *Alton Memorial Hospital Ambulance from Bethalto area.
- Most parts of the Brighton area, and north of town are covered by Alton Memorial Hospital Ambulance (Madison County)

9/08 --- 158.205 appears to be completely abandoned at this time. All 911 operations are on the 154.7475 narrowband repeater/remote towers. (Reported that: the reason the dispatch channel was changed was because 158.205 frequency was causing interference with another service. 911 Channel 2 became the Dispatch channel and at a future date a new channel frequency will be issued by the FCC which will become 911 Channel 2
Carlinville Tower (911/Sheriff/Local Government/Highway Department repeaters) The repeater has very good coverage (including portables), with remote receive & transmitter sites, into all surrounding counties and into the city of Springfield. This repeater system is a voting system, you may hear multiple responses (on the 46x MHz links) from mobiles on the receiving towers back to the 911 tower to be voted on to go out on 154.7475R.
