Botetourt County Fire & EMS Department

Botetourt County has seven fire stations operating as part of a unified fire and EMS system known as Botetourt County Fire & EMS. All stations provide fire protection services and most provide emergency medical services. All stations, with the exception of Station 6 (Glen Wilton), are staffed by a combination of career and volunteer personnel. Station 1 (Blue Ridge), Station 2 (Troutville), Station 3 (Buchanan), Station 4 (Fincastle), and Station 7 (Read Mountain) have 24/7 career ambulances staffed by Botetourt County Fire & EMS. A future 24/7 career ambulance staffed by Botetourt County Fire & EMS is planned for Station 5 (Eagle Rock). Station 1 and Station 4 also house Botetourt County Fire & EMS field supervisors. Station 7 has a second career ambulance staffed by Roanoke County Fire & Rescue between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. that primarily responds to calls within Roanoke County. Station 7 also has a 24/7 career fire engine staffed by Botetourt County Fire & EMS.

Company 5 often relocates one of its fire engines to Gala Industries, a business where some of its members work, during the week days to provide a faster response.

Station 7 - Read Mountain

The Read Mountain station was established as a partnership between Roanoke County and Botetourt County. In 2020, the station transitioned from a Roanoke County fire station (Roanoke County Company 12) to a Botetourt County fire station. Read Mountain is dispatched to calls by both jurisdictions.

Career Fire & EMS

The Botetourt County Fire & EMS Department employs over 60 full-time and part-time employees that perform administrative and operational duties. Administrative staff are headquartered in an administrative office located in Fincastle, while field staff are located in the Blue Ridge, Troutville, Buchanan, Fincastle, Eagle Rock, and Read Mountain fire stations.

  • Fire Ambulance # - A Basic Life Support (BLS) staffed ambulance that is cross-trained in firefighting
  • Ambulance # - A BLS staffed ambulance

Personnel Designations

Volunteer

Botetourt County Fire & EMS volunteers are issued a three digit number for radio use and department accountability. Each agency is in charge of determining the qualifications for and issuing radio numbers to their personnel. The first number is the same as the volunteer's home station number. The second number is used to distinguish if the volunteer is a part of the fire department or rescue squad. The third number does not have a specific meaning. Members of both Fire and Rescue agencies in the same district are not issued two individual numbers.

  • #60-#99 - Volunteer Rescue personnel

Volunteer Fire and Rescue officers are assigned a radio designation that is specific to their rank.
