  • This article lists ideas for future Categories-Tree maintenance, strategy for implementation, as well as pertinent notes for each idea, so that they do not get "lost" in the growing discussion in the forums.
  • The Categories-Tree article illustrates current and proposed categories-tree structure.
  • Discussions are in the Wiki forum, and include the following thread(s):

Ideas for Categories

Idea: New Category "Wiki Frequencies"

  • Idea: Build large "Wiki Frequencies" category parallel to existing "Collaboration" category.
  • Status: In-progress

Idea: New Category "Ground Transportation"

  • Idea: "Ground Transportation" instead of just "Transportation"?
  • Status: Pending

Idea: Standardize Category Names To Match Real-World Names

Idea: "Aircraft Monitoring Frequencies" category

  • Status: Cancelled/Withdrawn

Idea: Rename "Aircraft Monitoring" to "Aviation"

  • Status: Still being discussed

Idea: Eliminate "MilCom" Category

  • Status: Still being discussed

Idea: Create Additional Specific Aviation Categories

  • Idea: Consider categories for "...airline company frequencies, airline ramp communication systems, ATC frequencies, and airport operations frequencies"
  • Status: Pending

Idea: Consolidating Overlapping Categories

  • Idea: "We might also look into consolidation where it makes sense to do so."
  • Status: Still being discussed

Idea: Consolidate or Migrate Categories that have all frequencies

  • Idea: Categories that have children as frequency categories might be unnecessarily redundant if everything in that parent category has frequencies in the first place
    • [Discussion Link]
  • Status: new idea not yet in the discussion forum.

Ideas for Templates

Idea: "Frequencies" Template

  • Status: Created and being implemented

Idea: Template between Frequency articles and State articles

  • Idea: "another template can be used to send the <statename> frequency articles to their collaboration state name"
  • Status: Pending

Idea:Use standardized template for displaying trunked frequencies

  • Idea: Where neither the extensions nor the trunking infobox template is being used, if a trunk system is being defined in the article with frequencies, use the Motofreq and ELTRfreq templates. These display the frequencies in a table similar to what is currently in the database
  • Status: The templates already exist, and will be installed where appropriate

Ideas for Articles

Idea: Article: Software that can copy-paste data

  • Idea: "...article to identify which applications have the ability to copy the frequency data into their application editor"
  • Idea: "an article to document the applications that can copy/paste data from the wiki"
  • Status: In Progress. The article already exists, but documentation needs to be added to show which BuTel products could actually copy data from the wiki (or if they all can)

Idea: Article to Explain Large Categories

  • Idea: "article off the collaboration page for the various broader categories"
  • Status: Pending

Idea: List Amateur Radio Networks

  • Note: Could be treated as a new category, or built as an article.
  • Idea: "listing amateur radio networks in the Wiki"
  • Status: Pending

Idea: Create separate articles for RID/UID details

  • Idea: "We do have a number of RID/UID lists posted on articles that are just for a trunked system - so perhaps it would be a good idea to split them off onto their own article. It would certainly allow for future growth."
  • Status: Still being discussed
