Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) (CA)

CAL FIRE is the state fire department for California. CAL FIRE is an all-risk fire department with primary responsibility for structure and wildland protection in California's State Responsibility Area (SRA) (those areas outside cities, county districts, and federal jurisdictions, defined by the California Board of State Forestry ). Each Unit in the department is relatively stand-alone, with its own dispatch center and local area frequencies; however, in large incidents the state mutual aid plan engages to allow all units to seamlessly move resources throughout the state and to other states.

In addition to its state responsiblities, CAL FIRE also serves as the primary fire/EMS provider for cities, counties, and districts throughout the state through service contracts. In this capacity, CAL FIRE is a true all-risk provider, utilizing all types of resources, including paramedic engines and ambulances, trucks, haz-mat units, and heavy rescue teams, just to name a few.

Each Unit in the state has its own Emergency Command Center (ECC), and at least one Local Net (L) for primary radio communications. Several units also have command or response nets that carry the majority of the radio traffic. Where this information is known, it is noted in the descriptive section of the table.

State Command Nets (Command 1-10) are NOT dispatch nets. However, the frequencies are duplicated as Local Nets throughout the state, and may carry dispatch traffic from other units. For that reason, all Local Nets have CT protection on the output frequency of the repeater (the CT noted in the table). Using this CT tone will limit the bleed-over from adjoining Local or Command Nets.
