all enities have assigned number id's and shiawassee county is no exception. these assignments have been in effect for over 45 years or so. just because a enity has a numbering system, does not mean they have a police department. several shiawassee county enities have had police departments in the past, but because of tax base and money problems they have had to disestablish their police departments, but when the tax base and their bank accounts are full they reestablish their police departments. the numbering system is as follows:

300 series : shiawassee county sheriffs 200 series : owosso police 35 series : msp post # 35 from west side of flint, part of their normal assigned area 34 series : msp post # 34 from bad axe

           because shiawassee county voters voted down a shiawassee county sheriffs millage in november 2014, the sheriff had to lay off all his road patrol deputies (about 20 or so sheriffs deputies). the two msp posts had to step in so shiawassee county would have some kind of law enforcement presence on the roads and to answer complaints in rural areas.

55 series : corunna 66 series : lennon 69 series : vernon 76 series : laingsburg 85 series : morrice 86 series : perry could not remember the numbers assignments for bancroft, byron, and new lothrup. ill add them as soon as i find them.

All fire departments refer to themselves by department name and what type of unit they are (i.e. Perry Engine 1 or Vernon Tanker 2).
