  1. You must have the drivers for the PRO-668, PRO-18 or PSR-800 (whichever scanner you are updating) functioning.
  2. If you wish to use version 4.5 of the firmware, someone must send you a copy. Version 4.6 will be downloaded by using the correct version of GREFWtool (see the file size note below)
  3. Install GREFwTool. Note the various versions are dependent on the firmware and your OS. The version history is found at the bottom of that page
    1. If you are installing firmware version 4.5, use version 0.2.0.3
    2. If you are installing firmware version 4.6, the file size must be 368340 bytes. A file size of 524292 bytes will not work. The file name is WS1080e_U4.6 bin
      1. Make sure you get version 0.3.1.5 of GREFWtool. This is especially important if you are running WinXP. If you have version 0.3.0.4 from a previous installation, there's no need to upgrade it. Versions 0.3x will handle earlier firmware versions if needed.
  4. If you don't already have it,
    1. Obtain the driver for the WS1080. It can be found here
    2. Obtain and install the EZScan software for the WS1080
  5. Always back up your data before proceeding
