Most unit identifiers are based on a beat assignment. For example, 1D42 is the second day watch sheriff's deputy assigned to beat 4. Some unit identifiers may be simple sequential numbers, particularly for specialty units. For example, 1B1, 1B2, and 1B3 are the units that make up the sheriff's marine patrol. Davis PD uses the officer's badge number as the unit identifier.
