The Alabama Forestry Commission operates a statewide analog VHF radio system that it's personnel use for routine communications, fire prevention, and suppression operations. The system consists of one or two repeaters located in each county, which are linked back to Montgomery Central Dispatch via control stations located on Alabama Public Television towers. The system is completely narrowband (2.5 kHz deviation), and uses DPL (DCS) exclusively.

Regions

AFC divides the state into six regions: North, Northwest, Northeast, East Central, Southwest and Southeast. All regions except East Central and Southeast have two communications zones that share the same frequencies and repeater output DPL. Each repeater has a different input DPL.

Each region also has one or two simplex tactical channels used for on-scene or fireground communications. AFC appears to be using the "old" frequencies for the TAC channels. Identified so far are:

  • North Region TAC-1: 159.345 (023 DPL)
  • North Region TAC-2: 151.175 (023 DPL)
  • Northwest Region TAC-1: 159.315 (023 DPL)
  • Northeast Region TAC-1: 159.270 (023 DPL)
