Bergen County (NJ)

From The RadioReference Wiki

Welcome to Bergen County!

Bergen County is one of New Jersey's 21 counties, located in the extreme northeastern corner of the state. It immediately borders the New York City boroughs of the Bronx and Manhattan, as well as Westchester County, NY, by the Hudson River. It is also bordered by Rockland County, to the north, Passaic County to the west, a small portion of Essex County to the southwest, and Hudson County to the south. Bergen County is part of the New York Metropolitan Area and is part of the New Jersey Urban Area Security Initiative region [1]. Based on the 2010 Census, the county is home to 905,116 people within 246.7 square miles and 70 municipalities.

Bergen County is comprised of 9 fire mutual aid zones, with fire departments participating in at least one mutual aid group or association, sometimes more. These zones exist not only to share response resources during major incidents, but to provide common planning, training, and equipment within the region. These are:

  • East Bergen ("Comcen" - Fort Lee)
  • Interboro ("KBT809" - Closter)
  • Tri-Boro
  • Tri-Boro South
  • Northwest Bergen ("Norcon" - Wyckoff)
  • Pascack Valley ("PASCOM" - Westwood)
  • Mid Bergen (Teaneck)
  • Central Bergen
  • South Bergen (divided into 3 zones)

Additional multijurisdictional structures independent of mutual aid groupings, such as task forces and strike teams, may be setup by an incident commander through use of the Incident Command System. Such task force structure was stood up during the Hurricane Sandy flooding along Carlstadt, Little Ferry, and Moonachie in 2012 [2].
