The Connecticut State Police (CSP), via the Connecticut Telecommunications System (CTS Unit) both within the Department of Public Safety (DPS) operates a Motorola Type II SmartZone trunking system exclusively using APCO25/IMBE voice. This system is slated to go to full APCO25 Phase 1 trunking as funds become available. The first step in this direction was in the fall of 2010 when the controllers were upgraded to support this feature.

The system was rebanded to its present configuration in May of 2011.

In addition to the standard trunking talkgroups, CSP also uses several simplex channels for on-scene communications when required or necessary. These may be in the clear or secure depending on who is operating on them. Such use may be used at the Durham Fair, Ressenlar Field or other large events or tactical situations. However, most communications will take place on the trunked system.
