The DaneCom system is a 6 site simulcast system running Linear Modulation. The system at this time will have 10 channels, 1 being dedicated as a control channel. Harris plans to link some of the main Law talk-groups to the WISCOM system for great interoperability and coverage.
System Progress
At this time the system has past it's original completion date and Dane county has received it's third wide-band waiver for it's existing infrastructure.
Taken from Dane County Cities and Villages Association website. General Cutover Timeline (as of April 2013):
- May 2013: Entities that have already agreed to 'frequency swaps' for their legacy radio systems could begin to be migrated over to those new, agreed-upon frequencies. This process will continue over the next few months, but will be completed prior to DaneCom 'Go Live'.
- June 2013: Periods of DaneCom testing will take place. Those entities potentially affected will be notified well in advance. The process will allow all involved to work toward minimizing any possible events that may adversely affect legacy radio operations and testing of DaneCom.
- July 2013: If your entity has not yet purchased DaneCom-capable radios, this is the month to buy them! Also, various testing periods will take place. As noted above, those potentially affected will be contacted and steps will be taken to minimize any potential issues that may arise from testing of DaneCom.
- August 2013: This month should focus on DaneCom radio programming and installations. Your new DaneCom radios can also be used on your legacy radio systems. Radios at this time can be programmed for use on the DaneCom system. Also, while the radio is already being (re)programmed, any frequency changes that have been made for existing radios systems should be added, if desired.
- September 2013: User training. This month should focus on user training of the radios (called 'subscriber units') your entity has purchased for your staff. Dane County will also assist with training with a focus being on how to utilize a trunked radio system.
- October 2013: 30-day 'burn in'. DaneCom will be powered on and the system will operate at full power and capacity. Certain entities may begin to utilize DaneCom, but should only use the system for non-critical communications. DaneCom should not be relied upon for day-to-day communications until the official 'Go Live' date.
- November 2013: DaneCom will be fully operational sometime in November. Users with compatible radios that are properly provisioned can utilize DaneCom for day-to-day operations.
