Fire Departments

  • First two digits represent station. Numbers above xx20 represent officers or other individual firefighters. All other nomenclature is self explanatory when heard and can vary widely by department.
  • Fire Marshal - "FM-1" (formerly 940)

Ocean Rescue:

  • NH, KDH, and KH Ocean rescue supervisors - above xx50 (first two digits represent the town's fire station number designation)
  • Surf Rescue supervisors (Duck/Southern Shores/Dare County unincorporated beaches) - lower 900's
  • Individual lifeguards are identified by the beach access they serve or by last name
  • lifeguards on beach ATV patrol are identified as "Bike xx"
