Wildlife Resources Commission Police Unit IDs

Units statewide are dispatched from Raleigh. Outside of boating season, almost nothing but hunting enforcement is heard, but Wildlife Officers are sent to any major incident on the lakes. Officers seem to have both a state car and boat with trailer so, depending on the season and need, they can do hunting, boating or fishing enforcement. Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC) divides the states into districts under a lieutenant. Each district is composed of many counties. The districts are split into patrol areas under a sergeant. The patrol areas in the Charlotte area are composed of two or three counties. The unit numbering system is Patrol Area-Individual Officer Number-District. It's not completely certain but in the Charlotte area the numbers probably are:

• 4-x-6 Mecklenburg/Cabarrus
• 4-x-7 Iredell/Alexander/Davie
• 7-x-8 Lincoln/Catawba/Gaston

An "X" at the end of number is an officer's spouse. An individual officer number of 0 is probably the area sergeant, but this is not completely certain. Example: 406X would be the spouse of the sergeant in Patrol Area 4 (Mecklenburg/Cabarrus)of Wildlife Commission District 6.
