Digital End Decode Detection

Is the process in which Motorola II and Motorola P25 Phase I and Phase II audio, uses a bit at the end of every transmission to let the repeater know the carrier channel/frequency is clear and available for the next transmission, it is sub-audible and carried as the last bit in the digital coded voice stream, analogous to the conventional frequency spoken word "Over". Allows Uniden scanners to skip from the programmed DELAY interval on-to either: scanning or while on Hold to simply cut the audio amp until the next transmission is received. The same is true for "End Code" but is applicable to Motorola I and some Motorola II systems that have Analog and APCO Common Air (Digital Voice), if set incorrectly will cause motorboating on the scanner, try to use Analog Only if motorboating is experienced (related motorboating settings include P25 audio decode level adjustment, Simulcast digital distortion, Adjusting the AGC).

Specific Uniden Scanner Settings

BCD396T Digital End Code Detection setting

Firmware Versions 2.x.x & 3.x.x, This function is not available in version 1.xx.xx firmware for the BCD396T

BCD396T Version 2.x.x Firmware

To activate the "digital end code detection" feature - which is different from the "end code" option that is readily available in the radio's standard menu

  • Turn off the radio.
  • Press the HOLD button and turn on the radio again. Once the radio boots, release HOLD
  • Press Menu
  • Select Program System
  • Scroll to the system in question (i.e. Baltimore City). Select it.
  • Scroll to & select Edit Sys Option
  • Scroll to Digital End Code and select this.
  • Change from the default of ignore over to Yes.
  • Then, just get out of menu.
  • Could then turn radio off & back on again (to again get into regular operating mode).

BCD396T Version 3.x.x Firmware

To activate the "Digital end code detection" feature:

  • Press Menu
  • Select Program System
  • Scroll to the system in question (i.e. Baltimore City). Select it.
  • Scroll to & select Edit Sys Option
  • Scroll to Set End Code and select this.
  • Change from the default of ignore over to Analog + Digital.
  • Then, just get out of menu.

These will allow the radio to move on from any given talkgroup once the unit has ended their transmission - and importantly, the radio should no longer wait until the repeater un-sticks. You'll have to set this for each and every Motorola based system you are having this issue with.

comment: This likely applies to the 996 as well (ka3jjz)
