Franklin County Fire & Rescue Radio Call Signs

Fire Units:

Type Specific Designator - Station Designator and optional Redundant Equipment Differentiator

Tower 1, Crash 3, Engine 4, Tanker 5B (The "B" differentiator shows that Co 5 has 2 Tankers thus the radio call signs "Tanker5" & "Tanker5B"), and so forth.

Rescue Units:

Type (Staffing) Designator - Station Designator - Redundant Equipment Differentiator

All trucks in the county are licensed and stocked to the ALS level. Radio call signs are based on current staffing at that particular day / time. BLS staffed units are designated "Rescue" and ALS staffed units are designated "Med" or "Medic"

Rescue 2B, Med 5, etc.

Note that the redundant equipment differentiator is NOT an indication of run order.

Staff ID's:

Fire/Rescue Designator - Agency Identifier - Member Number

2 is an EMS member designator & 3 is a Fire member designator.

Some Agencies have a "System" for Member numbers that differentiate who is an ALS & BLS provider - others do not. Additionally some agencies reserve the first few slots for line officers where as others use command title designations.

Chief 9 - Chief of Dept for Co 9

Captain 2 - Captain of Squad 2 (Equal in rank to FD Chief in ICS scheme)

Special Notes for Squad 1

Squad 1 is all Franklin County Dept. of Public Safety Field Staff All field staff are cross trained Fire & EMS and each Ambulance carries SCBA's, basic hand tools, and turn out gear.

They staff 3 ALS Ambulances in Volunteer stations M-F 05:30 to 18:00 (Squads 2,4, and 8) - Their Radio call signs are "Medic 1-" and the volunteer squad number ie. Medic 1-4, 1-2, and 1-8.

Squad 1 also has a two person - 24/7 station at Westlake (15). They staff an ALS Ambulance (radio identifier is Med 15 or Medic 15) and a fire suppression piece (radio identifier Engine 15).

There is an additional ALS Shift Supervisor (radio identifier Captain 1) that operates an ALS stocked SUV response unit.
