Franklin County Fire & Rescue Radio Call Signs

Fire Units

Type Specific Designator - Station Designator and optional Redundant Equipment Differentiator

Tower 1, Crash 3, Engine 4, Tanker 5B (The "B" differentiator shows that Company 5 has two tankers thus the radio call signs "Tanker 5" & "Tanker 5B"), and so forth.

Rescue Units

Type (Staffing) Designator - Station Designator - Redundant Equipment Differentiator

All trucks in the county are licensed and stocked to the ALS level. Radio call signs are based on current staffing at that particular day / time. BLS staffed units are designated "Rescue" and ALS staffed units are designated "Med" or "Medic"

Rescue 2B, Med 5, etc.

Note that the redundant equipment differentiator is NOT an indication of run order.

Staff ID's

Fire/Rescue Designator - Agency Identifier - Member Number

2 is an Basic Life Support (BLS) EMS member designator (EMT-B & EMT-Enhanced)

3 is a Fire member designator

16 is the new Advanced Life Support (ALS) EMS member designator (EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic) followed by an agency & member specific designator.

  • Note 1 - The 2 vs 16 BLS/ALS designator does NOT apply to the County career staff (i.e. Squad 1)
  • Note 2 - To keep from having 3 digit agency & member specific designators for Squad 10 & since the 16 prefix is not applied to Squad 1 (Career Staff), they were looped down to the "10" series numbers (See examples below for clarification)

Some volunteer agencies reserve the first few slots for line officers where as others use command title designations.

2-1-25 - Member from Squad 1 (could be BLS or ALS)

2-2-0 - BLS Member from Volunteer Squad 2

16-20 ... 16-29 - ALS Members from Squad 2

16-30 ... 16-39 - ALS Members from Squad 3

.

.

.

16-90 ... 16-99 - ALS Members from Squad 9

16-10 ... 16-19 - ALS Members from Squad 10

3-3-38 - Fire Member from Company 3

Chief 9 - Chief of Dept for Company 9
