Welcome to the Franklin County Public Service collaboration article, a Trunked Radio System located in Franklin County, Ohio.

This multi-site simulcast system is the Public Service system for Franklin County, and is the primary backup system for most users of the Public Safety system. Owned by Franklin County and administered with oversight by the Central Ohio Communications Advisory Committee, it is used by most non-public safety operations of the City of Columbus and Franklin County, as well as the Central Ohio Transit Authority and several suburban cities and townships. Other suburbs are gradually joining the system as well.
System Background
Originally developed in the early 1990s as a Government-Owned Specialized Mobile Radio (GOSMR) system, this system was expanded in the middle and late 1990s into a two-site simulcast system to support Public Service agencies of Franklin County, the City of Columbus, and other cities, townships and independent agencies. The system is casually referred to as the County System.
Simulcast sites are located in downtown Columbus and northeastern Franklin County.
All dispatch centers in Franklin County have the capability of accessing the system for mutual aid using the Countywide talkgroups as well as assigned primary and backup talkgroups.
Talkgroup Structure
There is no set talkgroup structure for this system, although some talkgroups duplicate similar talkgroups on the Public Safety System. New talkgroups are assigned based on the next sequential talkgroup number available.
Radio ID structure
Radio IDs for fire departments and the Franklin County Sheriff mirror those on the Public Safety system. Radio IDs for Columbus PD and most suburban law enforcement agencies are randomly assigned due to assignment conflicts with system subscriber agencies.
