Radio Systems Statuses

The following is known about Public Safety Communications Systems in the affected areas.

If you have updates, please add them below!

Louisiana

  • NOPD's Wide Area EDACS ProVoice system is now up and operational. The system survived the initial hurricane, but subsequent flooding had knocked out generators, however the generators have been brought back online.
  • The Jefferson Parish Smartzone system is currently down. The 350ft self supporting tower was knocked down during the storm. ITAC1 is being used for the East bank and ITAC3 for the West bank comms. Currently operating all the comms from the Galeria building at I-10 and Causeway Blvd.
  • St Tammany Parish's EDACS ProVoice system is currently back UP and operational.
  • Most sites for the Lousisiana State Smartzone system are operational, however reports indicate that the North Shore Smartzone sites are currently down. Communications are occuring on the Smartzone system in the New Orleans Metro Area.
    • The Bridge City Site is Down
    • The LaPlace Site is UP
    • Northshore Sites are Down
    • Michigan State Police is bringing hundreds of their portables, which have been reprogrammed to operate on the LSP system, to help support the state's recovery activities.
  • Wasington Parish - All power, Telephone, Water are down, The whole parish is with gas except for a few stations that some gas. The Police, Sheriff, and Emergency Management Agencies and their respective repeaters are on backup generators So they have Local Parish wide communications. But No communication in or out the parish.
  • Ad-Hoc Communications Systems
    • Motorola has delivered a 700 MHz Communications trailer to the Louisiana State Police ,however it is unknown where it is being used.
    • Remote agencies on site are using the following:
      • Orange County FL Units - 800 MHz NPSPAC Simplex Direct
      • Austin, TX Units - 800 MHz NPSPAC Simplex Direct

Mississippi

  • Harrison County EDACS system is currently operational
  • Jackson County Motorola II system is operational
  • Gulfport - Operational
  • Biloxi - Operational

Alabama
