Kern Dispatch Agency Control Codes

From time to time you will hear agencies identifing themselves or being identified by various units. The "control" system has largely been abandoned, but can still occasionally be heard.

  • Control 1 - Kern County Sheriff Department
  • Control 2 - Bakersfield Police Department
  • Control 3 - Bakersfield Office of the California Highway Patrol
  • Control 4 - Fire Department Dispatch
  • Control 5 - Kern County Radio Shop

The Sheriff's Department still uses Control 1 as an identifer. The Fire Department consolidated dispatch center is now known as the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) and is identified as such. The ECC dispatches for the Kern County Fire Department, City of Bakersfield Fire Department and California City Fire Department. The Sheriff's Dispatchers, Fire Dispatchers, Emergency Management and county radio shop all share the same facility.

You can hear either agency on either's radio system depending on if its a city or counties first due area. A "reinforced alarm" is an addition engine and truck to the incident.
