These charts should help a user determine the memory limits of the source and target scanners. Generally speaking, it's safe to move data from a scanner with less memory into one with more.

You can use FreeScan to transfer data from one DMA scanner to another - as long as you respect the maximum limits of the memory in the target scanner. Before you proceed, it's highly suggested that you read the FreeScan related tips at the bottom.

If you wish to upload DMA data to a non-DMA scanner, you need to use the Export CSV function.

These charts should help a user determine the memory limits of the source and target scanners. Generally speaking, it's safe to move data from a scanner with less memory into one with more.

Notes
  1. May be less depending on system configuration
  2. Site programming is only available on the BCT15, BCT15X, BCD996T and all XT/P2 scanners

Moving Data Between Scanners

  • FreeScan will not attempt to remap quick keys or any function keys, such as startup keys. This is the user's responsibility

  • When uploading/downloading across different models of scanners, FreeSCAN will adapt the system/site types to be compatible. For example, a P25 Standard system is only for XT scanners, but if you try to upload it to a 996T scanner, FreeSCAN will change it on your behalf to a Motorola Type II/Motorola P25 system/site. It will also work in reverse. Another is example is downloading a VHF trunked system from a 996T and uploading to a XT scanner; FreeSCAN will modify it during upload to a Motorola Custom/Reband since VHF-type sites are not available on XT scanners.

  • FreeSCAN supports the BCD996T/BCT15/XT/P2 scanners feature of having multiple trunk sites in one system. When you upload a multi-site system to single-site scanner, FreeSCAN will create a system in the scanner for every site in the system being uploaded. TGID groups will be duplicated across every system in the scanner. Use this feature with caution because you can quickly run out of scanner memory.

  • The user should be aware of GPS differences. The 15 & 996T track GPS either by conventional system, or by trunk site. On the XT scanners, GPS is tracked by conventional group. As a result, transferring in between the two scanners for conventional systems will mean GPS settings will be lost unless the user edits the correct settings prior to uploading. In addition, the XT series scanners support GPS by TGID and conventional groups, unlike the 15/996T. Transferring from an XT to a 15/996T would therefore cause this information not to be retained by the scanner.
