Please note that this Narrowband allocation list includes frequencies currently in use that have not been migrated as of early 2010, so both wideband and narrowband non-trunked transmissions exist on the channels 007 through 097. As of early 2010, railroads are known to be narrowbanding existing conventional radio use, and trunked-capable narrowband radios are being installed, but no trunked operation is known. Railroad communications must be highly interoperable. Locomotives are often used in interchange service and they often "run through" interchange points to be used on a "foreign" railroad. As a result, a switch to trunked operation will be very slow and take several years to implement.
