Part 22 Paging Frequencies
Part 22 of the FCC rules covers certain commercial paging services.
The FCC auctioned off certain spectrum bands to bidders in various market areas.
Licensees can use their frequencies for their own operations or lease their spectrum blocks to other entities.
Besides paging, many other types of communications, such as conventional repeater or simplex systems, LTR trunked systems, and various digital voice systems such as P25 and DMR, can be found on Part 22 paging frequencies, especially the 152/158 MHz and 454/459 MHz paired channels. In some areas Part 22 paging channels are used by state and local public safety agencies. Before the cellular telephone netowrks were built in the 1980s these frequencies were used by IMTS and other mobile phone systems. They may still be used for this in some areas.
Auctioned Part 22 paging frequencies are not licensed as individual frequencies at specific sites as is the case with Part 90 private land mobile stations. Licensees can use any frequency in a license block at any location in the license market area.
It can be difficult to find license information. Part 22 licenses are not included in the FCC data available in the RadioReference.com database. Actual users may operate under somebody else's license. To search for Part 22 frequencies you must use the geosearch function on the FCC ULS license search page.
The tables below list the VHF High Band and UHF paging channels that are commonly used for conventional and trunked systems.
