the county.

Stevens Point Police Department Communications Center

As of April 2013, in the works is a proposal for a possible combination of the Portage
County Sheriff's Office Communications Center and the Stevens Point Police Department
Communications Center. Details are currently being worked on with both agencies. Should
this transition occur, Stevens Point Police Department Communications Personnel will
transfer to the newly upgraded and expanded Portage County Sheriff's Office
Communications Center.



Currently, In the event of an emergency at either dispatch center, the other is cross
trained and mechanically equipped to handle all of the county's public safety
communications needs.

UNIT IDENTIFICATION

  • Law Enforcement Units will use their respective unit number when calling in/out, as well as APCO-10 codes and phonetic alphabets.

Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP)

During the standard course of activities, WSP officers who patrol the Portage County
area will be stationed out of the Wausau Post, and will be assigned the 400/4000 series
unit identifiers



Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR)

During the standard course of activities, DNR Conservation Wardens working the Portage
County area will be identified by a C-Series unit identifier
