Porter County Sheriff's Dept Unit Designations

  • With the exception of UNIT 1 being the Sheriff, officer badge numbers increase as new officers are hired. Badge numbers do not get re-used. The higher the number, the newer the officer.
  • 'J' units are Jail Officers
  • 'R' units are Reserve Officers
  • 'X' units are District 10 Convservation Officers assigned to Porter County
  • Some of the smaller towns use the Sheriff Dept Frequancy. Those units are identified by their town name and unit number, i.e. Kouts-5 or Hebron-3.

Portage Police Department Unit Designations

  • Portage PD uses the same type of number system as PCSP. The higher the number, the newer the officer.
  • 600 series units are Reserve Officers.

Valparaiso Police Unit Number Designations

  • 100's - Lieutenants and Higher
  • 200's - Sergeants
  • 300's - Officers
  • 400's - Detectives
