The RadioReference.com Web Service

The RadioReference.com Web Service provides a common documented standard interface to the raw frequency and trunked radio data in the radio reference database. The primary benefit to this Web service is the ability for software developers to write applications that can support this standard process for accessing the data. Many software developers have written software that can program a scanner using data directly from the database.

There are two released versions of the RadioReference.com Web Service and one proposed version:

Version 3.0 (Proposed)

See the seperate wiki at RR_3.0_Release_Specifications

Version 1.10 (Updated November 11, 2005)

  • Download the Latest Version (PDF) of the Web Service specification which supports Conventional and Trunked System Information.

Notes about the latest version of the Web Service (Important):

1. Note the change in the XML doc format for a county query - there is a new top-level attribute, and two 2nd level attributes, one for trs data, one for conventional data. This is different.

2. The list of valid PL tones is where we are headed, however for the next few months expect to get non-standard PL's in the XML doc. I would just throw them away if you don't see a valid tone - however the logic is up to you. Anything new going into the database has to maintain the new standard for PLs, but we are still processing legacy entries in the db.

3. See Appendix C for the relationship diagram.

4. Note the new URL for the latest version of the XML interface. The existing legacy interface will be left in-tact and not changed for depreciated versions of software in the feed.

Version 0.94

  • Download the Legacy Version (PDF) of the Web Service specification which supports only Trunked System Information.

Future Directions
