Roanoke City Fire Stations

The Roanoke City Fire-EMS Department operates 10 fire engines, four aerial ladder trucks, eight ambulances, and three command vehicles 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Firefighter/EMTs and Paramedics operate out of 11 stations with 14 pieces of front-line fire apparatus, eight front-line EMS units, one heavy-squad, one HazMat unit, and one brush truck.

Historic Station 1 - Church Ave.

Historic Station 1 was built in 1906 and closed in 2007 when the new Station 1 was completed. The Roanoke Police Department's Mounted Patrol division maintains a horse stable behind the station and the building itself is now open as a museum. Historic Station 1 is located downtown on Church Ave. and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Station 5 - Orange Ave.

The old Station 5 closed in 2010 when the new Station 5 was completed. Personnel and apparatus from the old Station 5 and Station 9 were consolidated into the new Station 5.

Station 9 - Closed

Station 9 closed in 2010 when the new Station 5 was completed. Personnel and apparatus from Station 9 and the old Station 5 were consolidated into the new Station 5.

Station 10 - Privatized

Station 10 was privatized in 2010 by the Roanoke Regional Airport. The Roanoke Fire-EMS Department dispersed the previous crew and its structural apparatus to other Roanoke fire stations. The station is located on Aviation Dr. and houses three Airport Rescue trucks. The Roanoke Regional Airport plans to begin work on a new fire station in 2011.

Station 11 - Riverland Rd.

Station 12 - Closed

Station 12 closed in 1999 once the new Station 4 was completed. Personnel from Station 12 were dispersed to other Roanoke City and Roanoke County fire stations while its engine was taken out of service. The station was located on the Salem Turnpike.
