Topeka Police Department Unit Numbers

30 and 40 series are school resource officers

50 series are crime scene investigation units

100 series are motorcycle units (there are also some sheriff deputies in the 100 series)

400 series are patrol units The middle number (such as the 3 in 434) designates which zone the car belongs in Ending in 1 (such as 411) is the zone supervisor. 411 would be the Zone 1 Sergeant or corporal. If there is both a Sergeant and a Corporal on in a zone 411 is the sergeant and 412 is the corporal. Ending in 3, 4 or 5 are area cars (see map above) Ending in 6 or 7 are rover cars, 417 would travel throughout zone 1. Ending in 8 are traffic cars.

480 series are bicycles

490 series are K9s

500 series are detectives

600 series are USD 501, VA and Washburn University police

700 series are community police

800 series are ABC units (alcohol beverage control)

900 series are special patrol (DUI, seat belt enforcement)

"Cruiser 9" and other "Cruiser" units designate the administrative units, Cruiser 1 is the police chief.
