About S&D EMS
- HQ is located at the Centre Lionel E. Lalonde Centre located at 239 Montée Principale in Azilda
- 150 full and part-time paramedics
- Currently operates a fleet of 40 emergency vehicles
- EMS responds to approximately 35,000 calls per year (average of 95.89 calls daily) These calls are assigned through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care's Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC), based at 3767 Highway 69 South, McFarlane Lake Government Complex (Emergency calls make up more than 60% of the call volume, with the remaining calls being of a non-urgent nature)
Deployment
Seamless coverage is provided with:
Peak Demand – Days (Mon – Fri)
- 10 transporting ambulances
- 5 Paramedic Response Units
Night Demand – (Mon – Sun)
- 7 Ambulances
- 5 Paramedic Response Units
Weekend Demand – Days (Sat – Sun)
- 9 Ambulances
- 5 Paramedic Response Units
NOTE: Sudbury EMS deployment resources may fluctuate and utilizes a number of mitigation strategies to ensure optimal emergency medical service delivery.
Reporting Stations
These are the locations where ambulances are permanently housed. Typically, paramedic crews will wait at these stations until they are dispatched by the Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC) to an emergency call.
Stand-by Locations
When a vehicle has been assigned to an emergency, its coverage area has been compromised if there is only one ambulance normally available in that area. CACC will then dispatch an ambulance from an adjacent service area to a predetermined location. This "stand-by" location is roughly half-way between the station whose ambulance is on a call and the station from which the "stand-by" crew came. This strategy is known as "balanced emergency coverage.
Deployment stations
From our main station at the Lionel E. Lalonde Centre in Azilda, Paramedic crews are deployed to a number of locations within the former City of Sudbury and Town of Nickel Centre. Scheduled shifts are staggered to ensure optimal use of our resources and balanced emergency coverage.

- Long Lake Road Emergency Services Station
- Nickel Centre Emergency Services Station
- Minnow Lake Emergency Services Station
