The Tennessee Valley Regional Communications System covers over a dozen counties in northern Georgia and southeastern Tennessee. Local officials obtained more than $20 million in federal grants to fund the new Project 25 digital radio system. The regional network operates on both the 700MHz and 800MHz radio bands, using ASTRO 7.4 technology. This allows all public safety first responders to intercommunicate with each other, on a common interoperable platform, during local emergencies or widespread disasters. The system has now officially become the backbone for the State of Tennessee's Advanced Communications Network (TACN) statewide TRS.
