As you don't seem to have a reference in our membership file for the forums, I need to put this here.

We are in the process of dropping any references to the unofficial upgrade for the GRE/RS scanners. There are 3 reasons for this;

a. The unofficial upgrade was developed before Whistler came out with theirs. Whistler has been very helpful to the RR community, and it's important that we don't appear to do anything to undermine that relationship. Continuing to support the unofficial upgrade - even with the provisos we had in the article - could be seen as undermining that relationship since it could be viewed as a conflict

b. The author of the very tool needed for the process called GREFWtool seems to have dropped all references to it on the dropbox account he was using. As this tool is required to make it work, and the clear intent of the author to drop any association with it, this makes using the unofficial process somewhat problematic

c. There have been instances where the unofficial process locked the scanner up. While we did have a warning - which I originally authored- about potential issues, it seems unreasonable to have to support a process that evidently doesn't always work properly, and Whistler ends up having to fix. This could leave a bad taste in Whistler's mouth - something we need to avoid.

Please don't enter any more refs to the unofficial process - let it die a quiet death. It served its purpose at the time, but now Whistler has their own process, which we, as a community, should support
