VHF/UHF LTR Programming Notes

FCC License Class -

Site: 1 Antenna: 1 Class: FB08 (Centralized Trunk Relay) Mobiles: 1 <Five frequencies>
Site: 2 Antenna: 1 Class: MO8 (Centralized Mobile Relay) Mobiles: 250 <Ten frequencies>
Site: 3 Antenna: 1 Class: FX1 (Control) Mobiles: 5 <Five frequencies>
  1. My recommendation - Buy Win97 it will make this process a lot easier.
  2. Enter all freqs into one bank as FM and listen for EDACS control channel noise or beep at the end of a transmission, LTR sync pulse or Motorola ??? noise.
  3. Enter general LTR Talkgroup numbers. 0-00-000 to 0-19-000
  4. Remove FM freqs.
  5. Enter (as LTR) each license class of frequencies into a different bank. (If you change frequncies to EDACS mode you will be able to hear what is being transmitted.)
  6. Open each bank. (+) (Radio Shack Pro97)
  7. Manual each channel to get R# in the bottom right corner.
  8. Program R# into the banks channel number. (R03 into channel 03 - R19 into channel 19)
  9. Program specific talkgroups.

NOTES

Useful information I learned or found around RR LTR Talk Group IDs

Example System:
462.5125: R03 0-03-013 and 0-03-015.
461.8875: 0-01-255 R01
463.5625: 1-01-236

The first digit in a talk group ID is the Area bit. It will be a 0 or a 1 All frequencies in the system should have the same area value so 463.5625 is a different system. There could be more than one system at the site or you are picking up another system using the same frequency.

The second value is the home repeater of the group. It usually matches the repeater number (or LCN) being used but if the home repeater is busy another repeater will be used.

The third value is the group id. 255 is used for idle (no active group). Group 253 or 255 on the home repeater represents the repeater number being used and does not get moved to another repeater. Groups 253 and 255 can be the only activity on some otherwise quiet channels.

462.5125 This is repeater 3 and a home repeater

461.8875 This is repeater 1. You should also see the 0-03-xxx groups here sometimes when 462.5125 gets busy and another group wants to use the system.

463.5625 Keep listening and see if any transmissions with an area of 0 show up.

  • Look for radio service codes IG, YG, YK or any of the 800/900 MHz radio service
  • FB8 and MO8 as listed on the FCC ULS Database are in the correct Repeater order. Not sure if this is always the case.
  • FB8 (Centralized Trunk Relay) and MO8 (Centralized Mobile Relay) simulcast.
  • Repeater numbers wil be plus or minus four. (R03 R07 R11)
  • More than one LTR group can programmed in the same bank. (Group "A" is R03, R07 and R11 and Group "B" is R06, R10 and R14. Both can be programed into the same bank unless there are different freqs on the same channel.)
  • Conventional frequencies can be programmed before, in the middle and after LTR freqs.

TO DO

  1. List finished. Listen and enjoy.

Hi HeartThrobs - welcome to the RR Wiki.

While I encourage folks to experiment here, your Programming Notes and other comments should really be entered into another article and then linked from the PRO-97 and PRO-2055 (the 97's base/mobile version) articles where more folks might have a chance to read it. If you need help in doing this, please let me know.

The reason is that very few - if any - people know the User Talk pages even exist. The chances of folks reading this here are extremely low. These Talk pages are, I suspect, used in case the hosting site has no forums - and here on RR, we have numerous such forums. You could even announce this new article in the Radio Shack forum; that way, folks will know it's here Or are you using this area just as a place holder for another article? I'm willing to bet that's what you're doing here. That's fine. When you're ready to puhlish it, and link it to the PRO-97 and 2055 articles, please place the article in the Programming Shortcuts Category. Our New Article Guidelines can give you the syntax of the command, where it should go (there's a link to MediaWiki's page on this subject) and what categories we now have.

Opinions are welcome on talk and discussion pages, but by policy WikiPedia articles are written with a neutral point of view, as stated in the Quick Guide that you so nicely linked below. Therefore, please do move your opinions to the PRO-97 and 2055 talk pages.

Your user page is your own, and you are more than welcome to fix that any way you wish.

Joining the forums costs you nothing, in case you might not know.

73s and thanx Mike Wiki Administrator, RR

Mike,
Thanks for you input at User_talk:HeartThrobs.
The Radio Shack story is just my own little rant. That still is not finished. It will never have a NPOV so it won't reach article status. The rest of the notes are my personal notes as I was trying to figure out programming my first LTR system and for future reference since we don't have many LTR systems in my area. There are plenty of articles and forums on programming trunk scanners, Radio Shack, etc. I have read many articles and forums and will contribute when possible.
As a suggestion - you can sign your messages and I believe it is in preferences that you can make a signature to include that you are a RRWiki admin. This will make it easier for people to respond to your messages. To sign your message you can click on the second button from the right above the edit box.
