History

West Chester Township is located in Butler County (OH) in southwestern Ohio (US). It was created on June 2, 1823 from Liberty Township. It was the thirteenth and last township created in Butler County. The township's original given name was "Union". As the township grew rapidly in population it was often confused with other Union townships in surrounding counties, especially nearby Clermont County. After a March 9th primary ratification by township voters, the name was changed to West Chester Township on June 28, 2000. It is the only West Chester Township in the state of Ohio.

Public Safety Radio Communications

In the 60s through the 80s. The Union Township Police Department used a VHF base/mobile, then repeater pair of frequencies of 155.550 out 154.890 in, using the standard Butler County PL tone of 107.2. The Union Township Fire Department used the Butler County Fire Band 154.370 and PL of 107.2, however they dispatched for themselves.

In 1992 they switched to a five channel 800 MHz Motorola Type II trunked radio system. It was used solely by Union Township until 2002 when the City of Monroe joined the system. The Monroe Police used it sparingly, preferring their VHF repeater on 159.150.

In late 2008, Butler County began building the infrastructure to their new Butler Regional Interoperable Communications System (BRICS), a countywide 800 MHz APCO-25 system.
