Champaign 4th of July Celebration website

2008 frequencies - Parkland College/Dodds Park

I would expect the frequencies to be the same as 2007 with the following exceptions:
  • MDICE TG 22503 INCIDENT 4 instead of 453.250
  • MDICE TG 21505 instead of 453.825
  • MDICE TG 21500 instead of 453.400
Consider also:
  • 453.575 (151.4) Parkland College Maintenance
  • 856.7375 (various PL) Champaign Park District [repeater]

2008 parade frequencies

  • MDICE TG 22503 INCIDENT 4
  • 453.525 (118.8) Urbana Public Works (setting up barricades)

2007 frequencies - Parkland College/Dodds Park

  • 453.250 (118.8) METCAD CH 5 - EVENTS (also used by Parkland College PD "S" units)
  • 453.825 DCS364 Parkland College PD
  • 92.5 THE CHIEF - FM broadcast of the music corresponding to the fireworks display [the remote broadcast channel was 450.150 CSQ]
  • 453.400 (118.8) Champaign PD (some activity for perimeter calls for beat cars)
  • 154.570 Melrose Pyrotechnics Company (I wasn't close enough to verify if this was used)
  • 154.600 Melrose Pyrotechnics Company (I wasn't close enough to verify if this was used)

Unofficial St. Patrick's Day - U of I

Each year around the first weekend of March, many college students celebrate an unofficial drinking holiday called "Unofficial St. Patrick's Day". Police are out in full force handling anything from 10-38s, 10-92s, 10-10s, disorderly subjects, public consumption, public urination, throwing objects, falls, etc. For a discussion of the scanning during the event, see the "Unofficial St. Patrick's Day" - Radioreference.com Forum Thread.

Unofficial St Patrick's Day 2011
This year Unofficial is taking place on March 4, 2011.
Confirmed usage:

  • MDICE TRS INCIDENT 4 - METCAD and ISP police units and CFD fire investigators (simulcast with Starcom21 ISP D10 DETAIL A)
    • U of I PD switched to INCIDENT 4 at 8:30am
  • Fire/EMS paging is on 154.250 (131.8) which can also be heard on MDICE TRS TG 22012
  • MDICE TRS TG 22000 FIRE OPS 1 (fire/ems responses in Champaign-Urbana)
  • MDICE TRS TG 22018 Pro Ambulance
  • MDICE TRS TG 22714 Urbana Parking Enforcement
  • 453.750 (123.0) U of I Parking - towing and ticketing illegally parked vehicles, especially in the early morning
  • Assembly Hall staff will be providing security to the larger lecture halls. Security uses 463.350 DCS506.
  • 155.340 (210.7) MERCI - hospital<>ambulance transporting victims

Possible systems:

  • 462.975 179.9 Arrow Ambulance
  • MDICE TRS TG 22016 Arrow Ambulance Ops 1
  • 151.3475 (CSQ) Arrow Ambulance paging (simulcast of Arrow pages by METCAD on 154.250)
  • MDICE TRS TG 22713 Champaign Parking Enforcement
  • 453.600 173.8 U of I Housing
  • 451.450 DCS131 Illini EMS
  • Starcom21 TG 4551 Illinois Department of Revenue. Very likely related to Unofficial (mentioned a convenience store that's on Green St).

Unofficial St Patrick's Day 2010
This year Unofficial is taking place March 5, 2010.

  • MDICE TRS INCIDENT 4 - police and fire inspectors in the campustown area. INCIDENT 4 was simulcast with Starcom21 ISP D10 DETAIL A.
  • 155.340 MERCI ambulance<>hospital communications
  • Thursday night police activities related to Unofficial were on MDICE TRS INCIDENT 1

Other possibilities:

  • Tatman's Towing was removing some of the illegally parked vehicles. Their ops are on Cleartalk TG 34064.

Unofficial St Patrick's Day 2009
This year Unofficial is taking place March 6, 2009.

  • 10:00am - PD on the detail are using MDICE TRS INCIDENT 4 at Unofficial. Prior to 10am, units were using their primary channel. Champaign Fire had some units doing occupancy checks as well on INCIDENT 4.
  • 2:45am - command post terminated and all units returned back to their primary channels.
  • 462.950 (186.2) PRO Ambulance - responding to drunk subjects
  • 155.340 (186.2) MERCI - hospital<>ambulance communications

Unofficial St Patrick's Day 2008
This year Unofficial is taking place over two days: February 29 - March 1. Security from the Assembly Hall will be helping campus police this year (source), so monitoring 463.350 (DCS506) might be worthwhile (this freq had 139 hits on Friday according to Arc246's log, unknown if it was Unofficial related). ISP will also be assisting patrol Unofficial (source). Some activity on Starcom21 TG 13020 'D10 DETAIL A' was noted on 2/29/08 and probably related to Unofficial. For coordination between ISP and METCAD agencies, I'd expect it to be on 155.055 IREACH (at least one transmission was heard on IREACH that could have been related). A News-Gazette article reported that Illini EMS provided medical assistance. They use 451.450 (DCS 131) but it's unknown if there was any Unofficial radio traffic on there. I forgot to monitor to the City of Champaign TRS to see if any of their departments were using it. No activity has been noted on the old 453 MHz repeaters during the 2008 event.

  • CPD, UIPD, CFD inspectors and UPD in the campus area are using MDICE TRS TG 22503 INCIDENT 4 and have been doing so since 10am on 2/29/08 until after the bars closed. This is the most active and most worthwhile channel to monitor.
  • 154.070 (131.8) METRO FIRE DISP {medical dispatches}
  • Both PRO and Arrow have been handling various medical calls and I didn't pay close attention to which ones were responding to campus area calls (I know PRO was handling campus calls). Both ambulance companies use MERCI 155.340 to call the hospitals on a regular basis so it's assumed they are using MERCI over Unofficial weekend.
  • MDICE TG's: 22504, 21515, 21526 were all recorded by Pro96com on 2/29/08 but since these TG's are encrypted it's unknown if these were related to the detail or not.

Unofficial St Patrick's Day 2007
Champaign PD used 453.400 (campustown bars and off-campus parties)
U of I PD was on 453.250 during the day, but at 4:30pm they switched back to 453.900 (campus area calls)
Champaign/Urbana Fire (and medical paging) 154.070
Urbana PD used 453.900 (very little "Unofficial" related activity compared to 453.400 or 453.250 - I locked out 453.900 until U of I switched back to this channel)

  • 466.425 DCS271 heard some monster truck related comms. Either the show officials or an alternate freq used by the Hall Brothers Racing team (also searched and found 466.200 DCS271 but that may have been an image of one of the other above listed freqs)
