Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Patch

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue is a combination (career and volunteer) fire and rescue department serving Roanoke County, Virginia. Roanoke County Fire and Rescue is the largest combination fire and rescue department in the Commonwealth of Virginia west of Richmond. The department operates out of 11 fire stations, two EMS stations, one neighboring fire station, one administrative office, and a regional Fire-EMS training center. The department is responsible for providing fire and rescue coverage to an area of 251 square miles and a population of over 93,000 people. As of 2021, the department has 203 full time career personnel (uniform and civilian) and approximately 200 active volunteers. These volunteers, consisting of firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics, volunteer at all but two of Roanoke County's 13 stations. The department was founded in 1986. Before then, most of the stations that currently make up Roanoke County Fire & Rescue were their own independent volunteer fire and rescue agencies that covered their respective first due area of the county.

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue's stations are strategically located across the county to serve its citizens. Career and volunteer staffing varies by station, but volunteers generally serve week nights from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, and 24 hours on weekends and most holidays.

The station was subsequently rebranded from Roanoke County Station 12 to Botetourt County Station 7.
