The entire of Roosevelt County is contained within the Ft Peck Indian
Reservation. This leads to a somewhat different approach to law
enforcement and fire operations, with a cooperation between the
various agencies which is sometimes confusing.
Dispatch for law enforcement and fire seems to be on a community by
community basis as opposed to a county dispatch. For example SO
units in the Poplar area are dispatched by 'Poplar Dispatch' as are
fire units including the BIA fire units. There is a central 911
center (located in Wolf Point) which contains all the dispatchers,
but each community is handled on it's own set of channels. EMS and
Fire are paged on a paging frequency, but then contact Dispatch on a
community dispatch channel.
