+ | ==Public Safety Communications==
− | + | For over 50 years all Public Safety agencies in Butler County used VHF for communications. In 2010 the county switched from VHF to an APCO-25 (Digital)
− | + | 800 MHz Trunked Radio System called the [[Butler Regional Interoperable Communications System (BRICS)]].
− | + | In September 2014, Butler County added the BRICS infrastructure to the new statewide Ohio MARCS-IP system as a separate zone controller, which is now Zone 4 of the MARCS-IP system. All agencies in the county are now using this system. You will need a digital scanner to monitor it.

− | + | Note: Most Sheriff Road Patrol units have moved to 12 hours shifts. All Sheriff units also now use their unit number as the identifier now. District numbers or set identifiers per shift are no longer used.<br />
− | + | For example, there is no longer a distinction between west or east utility units, as it pertains to the radio identifier. All sheriff road patrol units are now 9 PAUL XXXX, where XXXX is their department unit number.

Butler County
Butler County is located in southwestern Ohio and is a part of the Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was formed from parts of Hamilton County on March 24, 1803. It is named for General Richard Butler who fought in northern Ohio during the Indian Wars of the 1790s. There are thirteen municipalities and thirteen townships in the county. The City of Hamilton is the county seat.

Public Safety Communications
For over 50 years all Public Safety agencies in Butler County used VHF for communications. In 2010 the county switched from VHF to an APCO-25 (Digital) 800 MHz Trunked Radio System called the Butler Regional Interoperable Communications System (BRICS).
In September 2014, Butler County added the BRICS infrastructure to the new statewide Ohio MARCS-IP system as a separate zone controller, which is now Zone 4 of the MARCS-IP system. All agencies in the county are now using this system. You will need a digital scanner to monitor it.
