The PL Tone and repeater frequency varies by location; some areas are using APCO-25 Common Air Interface. Encryption may or may not be used. 417.2 and 415.2 are the most commonly used repeater outputs nationwide.

FPS unit IDs are Number-Letter-Number format. First number designates the region, the letter designates the type of unit and the second number designates the individual unit.

- Sam - supervisory (sergeant)
- Tom - physical security specialists (non-commissioned)
- Victor - commanders/high-ups
