Van Wert County, OH
Van Wert is a rural county located in west central Ohio. It is named in honor of Isaac Van Wart who was a militiaman from New York during the Revolutionary War. He participated In the capture of Major John Andre in 1780. Andre was eventually hanged as a spy for assisting in General Benedict Arnold’s attempt to surrender the fort at West Point, New York. Van Wert County is the only so named county within the United States.
There are two cities in Van Wert County, Delphos and the county seat of Van Wert. Van Wert County also hosts 8 villages and 12 townships.
