Barix Instreamer / Instreamer 100 Network Audio Encoder Setup Instructions

Before You Start

If you have the older Instreamer (before they were called Instreamer 100) you may to need to upgrade the firmware so the older units can support ‘icecast’ streaming.

Read the manual for connection details and determining the IP address.

Then, open this IP address in your web browser to view the management screen of the Barix box.

When you connect, you will come to the Home Page.

Click on the Configuration Tab at the top. Then, click on "Advanced Settings" on the left.

Network Tab

Leave this blank if you only will use DHCP to assign the IP address to the Instreamer. Keep in mind that the IP address may change if you need to reboot the Instreamer.

To make it easy to locate the Instreamer on your network, you might want to assign a static IP address to it. There are two options:

  • assign an address directly in the Barix
  • reserve an address in your DHCP server

A static IP address never changes, but you must ensure that you choose a unique address to avoid conflicts with other devices on your network.

Some DHCP servers allow you to reserve an address that you specify so that a specific hardware MAC address always gets assigned the same IP address. The Instreamer remains in DHCP mode, but always pulls the same IP address. This centralizes all the static address assignments where you can find them easily and establishes a consistent address where you can find the Instreamer management screens.

Audio Tab

  • Input source: Set to Line Mono (for one radio) or Line Stereo (for two radios)
  • Audio format: Set to "MPEG2 / 22.05kHz"
  • MPEG Bitrate mode: CBR
  • MPEG CBR bitrate: 16 kbps (mono feed) or 32 kbps (stereo feed)
  • A/D amplifier gain: Set as needed. Depends on signal level. Start at 0 but 6-7.5db max.
  • MP3 bit reservoir: use

Streaming Tab

  • Streaming mode: Set to "send always"
  • Buffer Underrun mode: set to "skip"
  • Streaming strategy: Set to "optimal package"
  • UDP Tx Source Port: 0
  • Own Name: Enter your stream name (Example: Home City Fire)
  • Radio Path: (This is the RR Mount) See note below.
  • icy-url / SIP user: Set to http://www.broadcastify.com/
  • icy-genre: Type in "Scanner"
  • Shoutcast stream: Set to Public
  • Type of Service/DSCP: Set to 0
  • Under Stream to: (pick #1 or other a numbered row)
    • Connection Type: Select "Icecast Source"
    • For the needed IP address, go to the Technicals Tab of your feed information page on RadioReference's site & enter the SERVER info, Example: audio?.radioreference.com, replace the ? with the number of the receiver used.
  • Press SAVE. Instreamer will reboot.

  • Icecast/Shoutcast: See note below.
  • Press SAVE. Instreamer will reboot.

Note

1 You can find the needed Mount, and Password settings in the Technicals Tab of your feed owner page for the feed in question. Copy and paste this info into the Instreamer 100 as needed.

2 For the Server Stream to IP address, contact RR via the Help Tab from your feed owners page.
