The Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center (EIIFC), located in Idaho Falls, was established in the spring of 1995 after a five year planning effort. Participating agencies include the Forest Service's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, and the Bureau of Land Management's Idaho Falls District.

EIIFC is responsible for fire coordination of over 7.5 million acres of public lands, encompassing 21 counties within four states, including Southeastern Idaho, Southern Montana, Western Wyoming and Northern Utah.

Cooperating and contract agencies include:

  • Idaho State Agencies: (Departments of Lands, Fish & Game, and Corrections)
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs
  • Shoshone Bannock Tribes
  • Bureau of Reclamation
  • National Park Service (Yellowstone National Park, Craters of the Moon National *Monument and Grand Teton National Park)
  • USDA Sheep Experiment Station
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

EIIFC also has 38 Cooperative Agreements with City and Rural fire departments. EIIFC supports 9 ranger stations and 8 BLM guard stations.

Activities include incident and fire preparedness, suppression of wildfires, prescribed fire, aviation tracking and flight following, administrative and natural disaster coordination and support.

On average, EIIFC fights 132 fires a year. Resources include engines, an air attack base, air attack, helicopters, miscellaneous qualified overhead support personnel, hand crews (20 members each), and camp crews (10 members each).
