Fire Departments, Apparatus and Unit IDs

All Herkimer County Fire and EMS is dispatched on 154.205 (PL203.5 South // PL210.7 North-Webb&Inlet). The McCauley Mountain-Old Forge Repeater (North) is patched to JPJ EDACS Utica system which is used as a link to the 911 center in Herkimer.

Active fire ground frequencies are 154.280 & 154.295. 154.160 PL 203.5 is used as Fire/Law Inter-Agency in the county. Some fire departments have their own frequencies as well and use store-forward devices to repeat 911 dispatches.

Barneveld FD, Prospect FD, Remsen FD, St Johnsville FD, Richfield Spring FD lie in neighboring counties and have coverage area inside Herkimer County which has capability of direct dispatch (tone-out) of the agencies.

Herkimer County 911 can also tone Bridgewater FD & Ambulance and St Johnsville Ambulance which do not have territory inside Herkimer County but provide mutual aid EMS coverage.

Up north Herkimer County 911 contracts with the Inlet and Raquette Lake (Hamilton County) for dispatch of Fire & EMS as well as law enforcement.

Fire apparatus are identified by the name of the department, an apparatus type number and a 3-digit unit number. Chiefs use the name of their department with the number 1. 22-1 Fire Coordinator 22-2 through 22-7 Deputy Coordinators

Law Enforcement Information & Unit IDs

Herkimer County Law Enforcement is dispatched by the 911 center located in Village of Herkimer. Primary South Repeater is 155.610 PL 162.2. North Repeater (Towns of Webb and Inlet) is 155.610 PL 131.8. The North Repeater is also patched to the JPJ EDACS System which is used for a link between the McCauley Mountain - Old Forge Repeater and the 911 center in Herkimer.

Herkimer County Sheriff Department runs the jail and serves civil paperwork only. There is no Sheriff Road Patrol. All law enforcement outside the villages and town that have their own police departments is handled by the New York State Police. The 911 center answers all State Police administrative calls and dispatches SP cars on 155.610. You will also frequently hear DEC/Encon Law Enforcement Units (7N671-7N673) and Forest Rangers on 155.610.

There is a new Law Enforcement "TAC-Data" channel in the south area of the county - 154.430 pl 162.2.

Police cars MRD identifiers are 3 digit numbers. (Example - Ilion PD car 101). Police Chiefs are x20 (EX: Herkimer Police Chief is 220, County Sheriff is 820, etc). Officers, Sergeants, etc start at x21 to x29 (EX: Little Falls PD Sergeants are 525,526,527). Officers start at x30 and up)
