Hudson County

Hudson County is the smallest county in New Jersey and one of the most densely populated counties in the United States. The county is bounded by the Hudson River and New York City borough of Manhattan to the east, Bergen County to the north, Bergen and Essex Counties to the west, and the New York City borough of Richmond (Staten Island) to the south. Areas within Hudson County include a segment of the Palisades cliffs, the New Jersey Meadowlands, and industrial areas within Bayonne and Kearny, as well as redeveloped Hudson River frontage which was heavily industrialized until the latter part of the 20th Century. Hudson County is an area of widely diverse cultures.

Due to its proximity to New York City, Hudson County responders may respond to or be affected by high impact incidents within neighboring New York City. Such was the case during 9/11 and Flight 1549, when Hudson County became the receiving point for a number of injured persons arriving by boat.
